Not only have I been traveling my entire life, I’m also a licensed flight attendant. Over the years I’ve mastered the art of packing my carry-on bag. A full-size is a different story…but as long as I’m under 50lbs I’m good, right? RIGHT?!
Take a peak at the list of what I pack below. (Pssst: I have a link to a printable packing list at the bottom…)
(PS…this bag is on clearance at Target! Find it here!)
Boarding Passes: I like to print mine just so I have backup because, ya never know
Kindle Fire: pre loaded with a couple of book options
Headphones: pack a splitter if you’re traveling with someone! Makes sharing to watch a show or movie much more enjoyable
Charging stick: because an open outlet can be impossible to find
Chargers for all electronics: be sure you pack any lithium ion batteries in your carry-on because there’s a chance they can catch fire if under the plane
Hand Sanitizer: the things you touch in the airport are grosssssss
Emery Board: not the sharp metal ones…just the little drugstore cheapies
Hair Brush/A few hair ties: my hair is INSANE with all the static so this always comes in handy
A couple of bandaids: in case of blisters or small cuts
A few safety pins: these suckers come in handy in so many ways
Cozy socks: I HATE cold feet and flight attendants can’t change the temperature of the plane so if it’s freezing then that’s most likely how it will be for the duration of the flight.
Shawl or small blanket: just a head’s up…if the blanket a flight attendant hands you isn’t wrapped in plastic it’s been used repeatedly by countless people…ew.
Water bottle: empty, of course, but I fill it up after security
Depending on where I’m going I’ll throw in a bathing suit or a change of clothes just in case (and heaven forbid!) my luggage gets lost en route to my destination.
Of course these are just my carry-on absolute must-haves. I know people that pack more than I do and even some that pack less–which I don’t understand how that’s even possible but good for them! Click here for a printable carry-on packing list.
So this blog has been around for awhile now and unfortunately it’s been dormant for most of its sad life. The past two years have taught me so much of who I am and what I want (and don’t want) and I’m ready to actually do this thing. No more half-assed posts that I throw in there just because I feel pressured to do it or to just fill space. I’ve been planning and dreaming up this relaunch for months and I’m terrified and excited that the time has come to release it out into the world.
Anywho, without further adieu, welcome!
The new Chance & Coincidence will be a blog that focuses on my journey to creating and expanding my side hustle (aka my shop), outfit posts, DIYs, travel, tips, ideas, inspiration and things that genuinely make me happy. I may occasionally throw in a story or a memory because let’s be honest–weird stuff tends to happen to me, but I’m going to try my best to be much more focused in my approach. I’m hoping that as I do this more and more the blog will continue to organically grow into something that I’m truly proud of.
Take a look around…you’ll notice some new sections that I can’t wait to delve into in the coming weeks. This is what you can expect from each section–new and old:
Start Here/Meet Me: my about me section so that you can take a tiny peek into my head Projects: DIYs, things I’m working on, etc. Life: this will eventually be split into sub-sections but for now it’s a space for tips and tricks, anecdotes, inspiration, current music playlists, guest posts, things I’ve been into lately, fitness, food, things to do in Denver…anything that happens in life. Adventures: pretty self explanatory–travel and things I get into Style: Outfit posts, Style tips, things I’m dying to buy, etc Shop: A link to the Etsy shop which will be relaunching with a new look in February and a link to “Gloria”…you’ll have to wait until Friday to see what the heck that is 😉
You’ll notice that the old content is still here but you can expect new content three days a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7AM MST. Follow my Instagram or Snapchat (username: fallingupstairs) for daily posts.
What would you like to see on here? Leave your ideas in the comments below!
Little did I know that the week after this picture was taken I really would be off on a new adventure. I can’t tell you exactly what it is right now but I will tell you that I’m in St. Louis, Missouri for the next six weeks. (If you know why I’m here, keep those lips zipped…I don’t want to jinx anything)
I can’t wait to let you know what it is if everything works out…and well, if it doesn’t, I have a new experience under my belt and another story to tell my future grandchildren. I’m hoping that this new venture will give me more time to work on both my blog and my shop so we shall see.
Cheers to this site going dark for awhile yet again!
So I’m from Tennessee which means I’m a Peyton Manning fan…I’m also living in Denver which has made me care more about the Broncos than I necessarily would have otherwise. And, if for any reason you’ve been isolated for awhile, WE WON THE FREAKING SUPER BOWL.
Sunday started out like any other, but somehow this one just felt different. A friend and I headed downtown for brunch and the excitement in the city was palpable. Everyone was in orange. The streets had been cleared of anything that could be picked up or overturned. Meters were covered so there wouldn’t be any cars on the streets. Businesses were closing early. Denver was ready.
Jonathan and I had decided early on that we wanted to experience Downtown in case of a win. (We were hoping but were unsure because the Panthers were REALLY good this year). So naturally I went down there completely mentally and physically unprepared for what was to come.
All the bars were packed way before the game. There were people waiting in lines down the streets just to get in.
Once in it was standing room only. (We chose this spot because it was close to a heater lol)
As the game started we were all still hopeful but you could tell people were losing some steam because of how we were playing. As soon as the game turned around though…woah buddy. Things started getting wild.
Then, we won.
I will never be able to put into words what it was like but here’s a quick video of some of the clips I filmed…watch it.
There was screaming. Singing. Random hugging and kissing (yeah, it happened to me). Mosh pits. Fist bumps. Things flying through the air. People crying. It was incredible.
We somehow made it home with all of our belongings, a Super Bowl Championship tshirt, a few new bruises and both pieces of my broken glasses!
Of course the city wasn’t done with celebrating that night…we still had the Championship parade on Tuesday.
I had an appointment at 8AM and the city was already crawling with people. Many businesses excused their employees and the schools gave the students an excused absence. Everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE was downtown.
People were on ladders, rooftops and hanging out of windows to get a good view.
Look at all of those people.
Doot da doot! Boop de boop! Here they come!
Von Miller and the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
And there’s Peyton! (We were on the wrong side of the street for good, well-lit pictures but we saw Manning so that’s all that matters)
And more pictures of players feeling on top of the world…
The crowd was going nuts for the entire parade.
After the parade went by, the sea of people headed up 17th and towards the park for the celebration party in the park.
And my new favorite instant picture came from this day…(Win your own Instax Instant Camera HERE)
This is a few days late but I had to have some recovery time as I haven’t felt like a real human being since Sunday morning. Shew.
I never expected this experience when I moved here but I am so glad I got to be in the middle of it all.
10/10 would do again.

Today I want to talk about something that I have been completely obsessed with as of late: Kayak Explore. I have used it every single day recently and it’s making my wanderlust even worse–I didn’t think that was even possible.
It’s a simple concept really…you hop on the site, change variables such as airport and time period in which you want to travel, choose how much you want to spend on airfare and badabing, badaboom it shows you everywhere in the world, I said, EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD, you can go for that amount of money.
Here, let me show you…
Head to www.kayak.com/explore and you will see a similar map…your airport will most likely be different and I zoomed out on the map so that you could see all of the options around the globe. On this map I haven’t changed any variables which means that I’m not sure what month these prices are for but, hellooooo, there are some awesome deals. (And these are ALL round trip by the way)
Next, I change the month that I’d like to go…And then I usually just press search because I’m curious about what’s out there.
If you want to go ahead and change the price before your first search you can by using the price slider option.
This is what pops up for February…again you can look at the whole earth but for this example I just went with flights in North America.
In looking at the map I noticed that Vegas is super cheap so I decided to take a look…just click on the blue flag and it will tell you the dates, how long you’ll stay and how many stops or layovers you’ll have during the flight to your destination.
When you click on “Find Flights” the website will take you to the normal Kayak flight search page with all of your options. Notice, again, that these are all ROUND TRIP prices…you can double check that under the orange “Change” button in the upper right hand corner of this page.
You can even set price alerts for your trips from this page…
And that’s how simple it really is.
The way it works (I copied this directly from their site so that I wouldn’t be misleading in any way): Fares displayed are for round-trip economy class travel found on KAYAK in the last 48 hours. Fares include all taxes and fees but may not include baggage fees charged by carriers. Seats are limited and may not be available on all flights or days. Fares are subject to change and may not be available on all flights or dates.
Of course this tool is really most helpful if you don’t have a set vacation and you can plan around your flights, but if you have the travel bug or any sense of wanderlust at all, I highly suggest taking a look.
However, I must warn you that it fuels daydreams so when you become addicted to looking at flights around the world, don’t blame me.
