So I’m from Tennessee which means I’m a Peyton Manning fan…I’m also living in Denver which has made me care more about the Broncos than I necessarily would have otherwise. And, if for any reason you’ve been isolated for awhile, WE WON THE FREAKING SUPER BOWL.
Sunday started out like any other, but somehow this one just felt different. A friend and I headed downtown for brunch and the excitement in the city was palpable. Everyone was in orange. The streets had been cleared of anything that could be picked up or overturned. Meters were covered so there wouldn’t be any cars on the streets. Businesses were closing early. Denver was ready.
Jonathan and I had decided early on that we wanted to experience Downtown in case of a win. (We were hoping but were unsure because the Panthers were REALLY good this year). So naturally I went down there completely mentally and physically unprepared for what was to come.
All the bars were packed way before the game. There were people waiting in lines down the streets just to get in.
Once in it was standing room only. (We chose this spot because it was close to a heater lol)
As the game started we were all still hopeful but you could tell people were losing some steam because of how we were playing. As soon as the game turned around though…woah buddy. Things started getting wild.
Then, we won.
I will never be able to put into words what it was like but here’s a quick video of some of the clips I filmed…watch it.
There was screaming. Singing. Random hugging and kissing (yeah, it happened to me). Mosh pits. Fist bumps. Things flying through the air. People crying. It was incredible.
We somehow made it home with all of our belongings, a Super Bowl Championship tshirt, a few new bruises and both pieces of my broken glasses!
Of course the city wasn’t done with celebrating that night…we still had the Championship parade on Tuesday.
I had an appointment at 8AM and the city was already crawling with people. Many businesses excused their employees and the schools gave the students an excused absence. Everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE was downtown.
People were on ladders, rooftops and hanging out of windows to get a good view.
Look at all of those people.
Doot da doot! Boop de boop! Here they come!
Von Miller and the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
And there’s Peyton! (We were on the wrong side of the street for good, well-lit pictures but we saw Manning so that’s all that matters)
And more pictures of players feeling on top of the world…
The crowd was going nuts for the entire parade.
After the parade went by, the sea of people headed up 17th and towards the park for the celebration party in the park.
And my new favorite instant picture came from this day…(Win your own Instax Instant Camera HERE)
This is a few days late but I had to have some recovery time as I haven’t felt like a real human being since Sunday morning. Shew.
I never expected this experience when I moved here but I am so glad I got to be in the middle of it all.
10/10 would do again.
Have you ever experienced a Super Bowl celebration?
